Shadowing Experience
While shadowing, the focus for the student is to watch the therapist conducting their sessions in the most natural environment possible. Please ask the therapist you’re shadowing where they would like you to sit in the room. While the session is ongoing, refrain from interjecting or interacting directly with the child unless the therapist specifically invites you to do so. At the end of the session, the therapist may invite you to play a game/toy with the child for the last few minutes! If you are uncomfortable with this, just let the therapist know at the beginning!
Questions
We know you’ll have questions – and we love to answer them! However, each therapist will have different preferences about when questions can be asked (during the session vs. after). Please make sure to ask the therapist what they prefer! Some clients also require higher levels of involvement from the therapist, meaning questions may need to be reserved for after the session.
